Today, I’m reviewing a new hair color line I’ve recently discovered: L’OREAL Paris Colorista! If you’ve been following me on Instagram for the last few months, you may know that I’ve been trying out a couple of different colors from this line. I’ve been trying to get a good idea of its lasting power and color pay off. I think it’s fair to mention that the Colorista hair dyes are not created equal. Some definitely last longer than others.
Before I go any further, I need to explain my hair situation. I have thick, fine, curly hair that has been highlighted, which is why the color shows up on the ends of my hair and not my roots. If you have brunette hair, they have a line of Colorista hair dyes made specifically for you. Since I have only tried the colors for blondes, I don’t know how long those dyes last. Ok, moving on!
After trying a multitude of different hair colors from BLEACH LONDON and having to dye my hair every week to keep my color, I knew that I needed a change in my routine. Once I heard about the Colorista Hair Dyes, I used their Wash Out Shampoo to get the pink out of my hair. WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS if you don’t want to bleach your hair! I had no idea that this product contained peroxide since it is not mentioned on the box and it damaged my hair!
After the pink was washed out, I began dying my hair with the Purple dye. I left it on my damp hair for about 30 minutes without mixing in any conditioner.
Here’s what my hair looked like after I styled it (Forgive the camera quality. I used my iPhone):
To my surprise, the purple really stood out on my hair. It also lasted about 6 washes which was amazing considering how long the other dyes I had used lasted only a week! It also didn’t turn my hair green or fade unevenly.
The second hair dye I used was the Pink one. After how successful the purple was, you can imagine how excited I was to return to my favorite hair color. Unfortunately, this turned out to be bittersweet.
Here’s my hair after I dyed and styled it:
Although I was immediately obsessed with this color, it only lasted about 2 washes before I could barely recognize it.
Here’s a picture of my hair after the first wash:
It’s a nice pastel pink shade, but, by the next wash, it was almost completely gone.
All in all, I’m still very impressed with the purple hair dye, but the pink just didn’t do it for me. The color looked great at first, but in my opinion, it didn’t last long enough to be worth it. Also, I was very disappointed that the Wash Out Shampoo severely damaged my hair, and it’s actually still recovering after about 2 months of weekly intense conditioning.
My advice: read up on each color before you try it to see how each one will react with your hair and definitely do a patch test. I highly recommend the pink to anyone who doesn’t want a huge commitment and the purple for someone like me who loves to try different colors and wear them for a while.
Until my next post, fashionistas! I hoped it helped! As always, I love my lovely readers!
