1. Myth: All your teeth will be perfectly white.
Not all teeth will be perfectly white after the treatment is over. Some people naturally have darker enamel, which cannot change. The only way you will know is if you eliminate all the stains by using a professional product like Smile Brilliant.
2. Myth: If your teeth feel sensitive after treatment, you should stop the process right away.
If you have tooth sensitivity during whitening, it’s normal and will go away. This is true with all teeth whitening products. However, if you’re having a severe reaction, stop the treatment and talk to your dentist before proceeding!
3. Myth: Whitening toothpaste and charcoal powder are safer than whitening treatments.
Stay away from whitening toothpaste and charcoal powder. Products like whitening toothpaste or charcoal teeth whitening are highly abrasive and will wear down your enamel leading to sensitivity. I tried charcoal powder to whiten my teeth and it left scratches all over them which, annoyingly, took about a month to go away. Steer clear!
4. Myth: Your teeth will be whiter after the first day of treatment.
You won’t see significant progress overnight. Each time you whiten, you’re removing years of stains. If you are sensitive, just go slower but do more applications.
5. Myth: Your teeth stay white forever after you finished the treatment.
Your teeth are always restaining and will need maintenance. Your first 7 to 12 sessions should remove all the stains you’ve acquired over your lifetime. After treatment, you may only need to whiten 3-4 times per year to maintain. It’s important to have a product (like custom whitening trays) that you can keep forever and use whenever needed.
6. Myth: All teeth whitening products are of the same strength.
There is a myriad of products that have different concentrations of whitening ingredients. For example, Smile Brilliant has a product that’s great for sensitive teeth, because it desensitizes your teeth after each treatment.
7. Myth: Leaving the product on your teeth longer than the recommended time will give you better results.
Although this myth is half true (it technically will whiten your teeth faster), it will also give you extreme sensitivity. The damage this will cause will go away much slower than if you left it on for the recommended time, and you’ll be drinking your meals out of a straw for a week. Who wants that?
8. Myth: Instagram hacks are just as good as the real thing.
I know that it’s an unpopular opinion, but Instagram is not the place to find the best skincare and tooth-care methods. If you want to try one out for yourself, ask your dentist if it’s safe. You don’t want to ruin your beautiful teeth!
9. Myth: All teeth whitening products are expensive.
This is simply not true. Teeth whitening products range heavily in price, but more often than not, the cost matters when it comes to quality, more often than not. That’s why research is key when choosing the right product for you.
10. Myth: Drinking coffee and dark-colored soda during treatment won’t stain your teeth.
Drinking dark-colored liquids will stain your teeth during the whitening process. It’s best to abstain from drinking them, if possible (sorry coffee addicts!).
